Summary0000573: [USB] happen to reboot when the ext HDD is connected to USB port
DescriptionHi Sean
I connected EXT 2.5inch HDD to USB port of EAGLE during normal operating mode.
The Eagle sometimes robooting.
This symptom is very urgent.
The ext 2.5INCH Model is WD (SEE THE ATTACHED FILE)
In my opinion, other EXT HDD are also possible to ocurr rebooting.

Hi SB,
As per discussion with Mr.Philip last Friday, could you plesae also check if this is only a single case or will also happend in other PCBAs?

Hi Sheila,
Would you please arrange HDD connected test with SQA team?
We may need to sample more branding of HDD to see if this is just a case.

Hi SB, please help to confirm whether phenomenon procedure as below
External HDD access to Eagle USB port, and play 4K@30fps video via youtube (4K video is not stored on the external HDD).
When you remove the external HDD from Eagle, sometimes it will reboot.

Hi Sheila.
I found the symptom of rebooting.
the Eagle is operating normally (live ch.), and I just insert ext 2.5 HDD to USB port.

Hi SB,
So, you can reproduce the phenomenon when you use your WD external HDD on every Eagle PCBAs?

Hi SB,
The USB HDD here we use for test is the same as your site. But we retest 20 times under 4Kp60 youtube video play did not happen reboot phenomenon. We also check the voltage drop, the lowest voltage is about 4.9V. So the voltage drop did not cause reboot. Is there more detail or others that can provide us for test?

Hi Sheila, Hi Fu-chiang
the symptom doesn't occur 100% with my HDD.
And, the scinario of reproduce is very simple. just insert EXT HDD to usb port during operating mode

Hi SB, can you try to reproduce the same phenomenon on different PCBA with your WD eternal HDD? This information also is very important to debug.

Hi, Sheila. I cannot try to reproduce. I have a few board and I'm editing your report to submit SKB.

Hi Sean.
I try to reproduce rebooting. but this symptom does not apprear.
I also check the USB5V. the dip sometimes appears (check point is c908. is it right?)
dip duration time is about 400us. level is about 2.4V (see the attached picture)

and, I will have a business trip this sunday. I will carry the EXT HDD and Eagle board.

Hi SB,
The check point C908 is correct. But can you describe in more detail about the "sometimes appears".
Is it mean that the dip will happened randomly or caused by some certain event?

We can check this issue together with your EXT HDD next Mon.

Hi SB,
We check the dip voltage with 2 PCBA, one is our board and the other is your board for comparing different. We capture the worse case dip voltage and all PCBA are play 4kp60 video in youtube. Plugged-in and plugged-out the USB HDD many times.
Measure points are USB S/W IC(U902) front side(PP_PWR_IN[C901]) and rear side(USB_5V[C908]).
The worse case is PP_PWR_IN=4.68V and USB_5V=2.595V.
Please see the attached files.

Hi Fu-Chiang Young.
there is no rebooting durign when 5v dip appears? Can we talk about debugging face to face?

Hi Sean.
the picture2 is spec out. In your opinion, the duration is very short. so check please the dip is ok or not during this short duration.
and check about other volatges which are supplied to AMLOGIC and so on

Hi SB,
We check the power tree of VDD_EE/VDDCPU/P3V3/eMMC_VDDQ/P1V8/P1V2/P2V5, here is the voltage drop spec.
VDD_EE: 0.8V[0.76V]
VDDCPU: 1V[0.95V]
P3V3: 3.3V[3.135V]
eMMC_VDDQ: 1.8V[1.7V]
P1V8: 1.8V[1.71V]
P1V2: 1.2V[1.14V]
P2V5: 2.5V[2.375V]
The waveforms capture as attached files.

Hi SB,
I think there is no risky about this dip based on our verification result.
However, I just wondering why you meet the reboot symptom during the continuous plug-in/out test in Korea site.
Just not sure if we still miss something in our test procedure?

Hi Sean
Thank you for your opinion.
and
I also don't know why rebooting happen. at that time that happen rebooting, I have no scope. so I just tried to find a symptom scenario.

Hi SB,
We plugged-in and plugged-out USB HDD repeatedly over 50 times on your PCBA, but we still cannot duplicate rebooting phenomenon yesterday.
Today, we will keep repeating and trying to plugged-in and plugged-out the USB HDD. We still keep monitor it.
